PATTAYA, Thailand – Tourist Police in Pattaya have arrested a 36-year-old Ugandan woman after a US tourist reported money missing from the safe in his South Pattaya hotel room.

The suspect, identified only as F.N., was detained at approximately 11 AM on August 14 outside a fast-food restaurant in the Walking Street area, after officers traced her following the complaint. The arrest was made by officers from Tourist Police Station 4, Division 2, Tourist Police Bureau 1.

According to Tourist Police, the American visitor had taken the Ugandan woman to his hotel room in South Pattaya. Officers said the visitor opened the room safe while she was present and that she allegedly watched the access code. Police said that when the visitor was distracted, the suspect allegedly opened the safe and took several items before leaving the hotel and heading towards Walking Street. The hotel and the American tourist have not been identified.

Police carried out a search of the woman after she was located, with officers reporting that items were found concealed in a wig, bra, and the front of her underwear. The evidence recovered included twelve US$100 notes and six US$2 notes, with a combined value of approximately 40,000 baht.

The suspect was informed of the theft charge and her legal rights before being taken for further legal proceedings. Police have not disclosed whether the suspect has legal representation or whether additional charges are pending. The incident has raised concerns about safety and security in Pattaya’s tourist areas, with authorities reminding visitors to exercise caution when interacting with strangers and to secure their valuables.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as the legal process unfolds. The Ugandan embassy in Thailand has been notified and is providing consular assistance to the suspect. Police have not indicated whether the suspect will be granted bail.
